EVERETT — One person was seriously burned Saturday in an early morning house fire in Everett.
Flames were eating away at a house in the 2200 block of Rainier Avenue when firefighters arrived just after midnight. Dispatchers first were told that people were trapped inside the burning house.
The residents escaped by the time firefighters were on scene, Everett Assistant Fire Marshal Eric Hicks said. One person was rescued from the basement by a relative who broke out a window. Others escaped out a second-story window.
Two people were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. One person was seriously burned and a second was being treated for minor burns. Five other people sustained minor injuries and drove themselves to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Hicks said.
A firefighter also was taken to the hospital with an ankle injury.
The fire was snuffed out just after 4 a.m. Crews stayed on scene throughout the morning to monitor the house for hot spots.
The cause of the blaze remained under investigation.
