Notes from Pete Carroll's Monday press conference

The Seahawks lost a couple of important players to injuries during Sunday's loss, but the news on center Max Unger sounded somewhat positive Monday.

After the game Pete Carroll called injury a pec strain, and if that strain ended up actually being a tear, that's frequently a season-ending injury. On Monday, however, Carroll said his center could be on the field this weekend.

"He’ll be in limited fashion during the week, we think we’ll get him for the ballgame," Carroll said.

The foot injury suffered by linebacker KJ Wright, however, is more serious, and Wright is scheduled to have surgery Tuesday. Carroll said they won't know until after the surgery if Wright has a chance to make it back for at least some of the playoffs, or if he'll end up on injured reserve.

"He’s schedule to get operated on tomorrow," Carroll said. ". . . We’ll find out after they do the surgery and find out what the extent of it was and all of that. Four to six week, usually on six weeks on broken bones is what they talk about. He’s a good healer, so we’ll see how he does."

With Wright out, Malcolm Smith will take over as the starting weakside linebacker.

On Percy Harvin, the hope is to get him back at practice this week, Carroll said, but as always, it's wait and see: "We’re going to go to Wednesday and find out if he can go, if he can practice on Wednesday. We’ll find out."

On cornerback Brandon Browner, who is battling a groin injury and also awaiting word on his appeal of a suspension for substance abuse, Carroll said still have no indication from the league on when a ruling might come down, nor do they know yet if he's healthy enough to practice this week: "We’re not getting any indication at about any timeframes, so we’re just trying to get him healthy, get him back. We won’t know until Wednesday if he can practice or not."
