The sheriff's office presented a draft contract to councilmembers at a work session on Wednesday night, City Clerk Darla Reese said.
The vote on the contract is planned to take place at the Dec. 18 meeting, set for 7 p.m. at City Hall.
The Granite Falls mayor, who leaves office Dec. 31, fired the police chief in October.
The department has four police officers and 10 reserve officers. One of the officers has been serving as interim chief.
In addition to unincorporated areas, the sheriff's office contracts to provide deputies to local cities including Snohomish, Stanwood, Darrington and Sultan.
