Snohomish County’s own production of “The Nutcracker” features a Christmas tree that doubles in size, an action-packed battle scene with cannons booming and Mother Ginger hiding buffoons under her giant skirt.
Olympic Ballet Theatre offers its traditional version of “The Nutcracker” beginning Saturday and Sunday in Everett and continuing Dec. 20, 21 and 22 in Edmonds.
Olympic Ballet Theatre, which has performed the ballet for more than 30 years, has freshened up its “Nutcracker” this year with a grand new party scene and a new second-act backdrop by scenic artist Jeanne Franz.
“The Nutcracker” is the story of a little girl named Clara and a special wooden nutcracker doll given to her by her godfather at her family’s Christmas Eve party. The night turns magical after Clara falls asleep.
Performances are at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.; and 7 p.m. Dec. 20, 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 21 and 5 p.m. Dec. 22 at the Edmonds Center for the Performing Arts, 410 Fourth Ave N.

Olympic Ballet Theatre, based in Edmonds, is under the direction of Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorboulev, former dancers with the Pacific Northwest Ballet.
The couple’s dancers have gone on to attend Boston Ballet School, San Francisco Ballet School, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School, Pacific Northwest Ballet School and Los Angeles Ballet School, among others.
