Consider it a Christmas present.
Cascade Symphony Orchestra’s “Happy Holidays!” concert program looks like the recorded music Dad had queued up on the living room stereo for his Christmas eve listening pleasure. It’s warm, but exciting; classic, but playful.
It includes Georges Bizet’s “L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2,” Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” Leroy Anderson’s “Typewriter,” a Strauss polka and Offenbach’s overture to “Orpheus.”
“It’s a nice assortment and a fun variety of light classics offered in the spirit of Christmas,” said the orchestra’s principal violist Roberta McBride. “We hope the audience enjoys it as much as we have.”
Other pieces on the program, to be performed under the baton of director Michael Miropolsky, are Anderson’s “The Waltzing Cat,” Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance No. 6 in D Major,” selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera,” a Hanukkah medley and a Christmas carol sing-along. And it’s all topped off with the Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s “Messiah.”
The holiday concert, set for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at Edmonds Center for the Arts, is the second in the orchestra’s four-concert, 52nd season.
The Center for the Arts is at 410 Fourth Ave. N.
The concert is mostly sold out, but you can check at 425-275-9595 or www.ec4arts.org. People also can call the day of the concert. Season ticket holders often return their tickets at the last minute.
The next Cascade Symphony Orchestra concert is Jan. 20, featuring Alexander Velinzon playing Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto in D Major.”
