It seems odd that “creating a path to citizenship” has become such a problem for the Obama administration and the immigration activists. This nation has had just such a path for well over 100 years, and it has served well for millions of immigrants. It involved establishing a legal residency in the United States, and then studying for, and applying for naturalization as an American citizen.
Those who circumvented these procedures were customarily expelled when apprehended. I would like to know of any other nation that would allow millions of people to enter their borders illegally, while at the same time millions of others have been waiting years in some cases to immigrate legally, and then seriously consider rewarding the illegal aliens with the prize of citizenship. That is like allowing bank robbers to keep the money if they can avoid capture for a certain period of time. It wasn’t all that long ago that immigrants to the US had to have a sponsor who would guarantee their support until they became established on their own.
I suppose only a cynic might believe that steam rolling such legislation might be done in the interest of establishing millions of loyal new voters who would support their political benefactors out of sense of gratitude.
