A free showing of the Academy Award-nominated film “Winged Migration” is set for 7 p.m. Friday in the Adopt A Stream Foundation’s Northwest Stream Center auditorium, McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.
Foundation director Tom Murdoch calls the showing of the documentary “a break from the shopping mall hustle.”
“All around the world, birds are in migration,” Murdoch said.
That is evident locally this time of year, with the arrival of birds from the far north. Bald eagles can be found along the rivers and trumpeter swans and snow geese in the farm fields, Murdoch said. “And occasionally, there are some snowy owls from Canada taking in the scene.”
“Winged Migration” was made by five film crews following bird migrations through 40 countries and each continent. Cinematographers used planes, gliders, helicopters and balloons to fly alongside, above, below and in front of the birds through areas as remote as the Arctic and the Amazon, and as populated as Paris and New York City.
Murdoch said the film is OK for mature middle school kids, but not young children. He also suggested that people bring seat cushions to make the auditorium lecture chairs more comfortable.
