Balanced effort leads Arlington over Union

ARLINGTON -- Ball distribution and a second quarter run proved to be key factors as Arlington defeated Union 55-47 in a nonleague game on Saturday night at Arlington High School.
The Eagles had just two players score in double-figures, with senior guard Gavin Smoke leading the way with 11 points and Kaleb Bryson adding 10 points and three 3-pointers.
"It was a real good team effort, said Arlington head coach Nick Brown. "Our scoring was really balanced as you can see in the box score. Bryson and (Bradey) Brummel got in foul trouble and our other guards really stepped up."
The back-and-forth battle saw the Titans jump out to an early 12-7 lead to end the first quarter. The Eagles, facing foul trouble from their starting backcourt, used their depth off the bench to go on a 21-10 run to end the second quarter to give Arlington a 28-22 halftime lead.
"Union is a really good team," said Brown. "They were state champs (in 2010) and we knew going in that they were a team with a lot of length. We knew that we were going to go right at them and that's what our guys did tonight."
