Everett's cleanup and repair bill for sewer malfunctions on Aug. 29 and Sept. 6 has crept to an estimated $3.2 million. That's before factoring in longer-term fixes. By last week, the city had reported receiving 189 related claims for damage. It's accepted 164 and turned down 18, with another seven still under review. Here's a rundown of affected areas.

The Northwest Neighborhood was among the worst hit in the city. That includes a cluster of homes northeast of Grand Avenue Park and a string of houses on Wetmore Avenue, north of Everett Community College.

Other claims have flowed in from areas east of Broadway, around Rucker Hill and apartments on 47th Street. There's even been a trickle of trouble along Mukilteo Boulevard.

The city plans next year to start a major construction project to separate combined sewer and stormwater pipes. The project in the Northwest Neighborhood carries a projected $20 million cost over two years. However, it would update only a fraction of the area in Everett currently served by the antiquated combined system.
