BURIEN — The Washington State Patrol says a husband and wife who were driving to Sea-Tac Airport Wednesday morning were seriously injured in a five-vehicle crash on Highway 509 at Burien.
Trooper Chris Webb says the pileup was caused by a vehicle that came down an embankment from a side street. It collided with the couple’s vehicle, which was then hit by three more vehicles.
KING-TV reported that the couple were headed out of town for the holidays.
Clay Eakin was reported in serious condition later Wednesday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle while his wife, Barbara, was in critical condition. None of the other injuries was serious.
The driver who came down the embankment fled on foot but was tracked down and arrested by sheriff’s deputies.
The crash happened at about 5 a.m., blocking the southbound lanes. They were reopened about 9:30 a.m.
