MUKILTEO — Eleven people applied Friday to fill a vacancy on the City Council, including one person who came within a handful of votes of winning a seat outright in last month’s election.
Six women and five men are seeking to take the place of Jennifer Gregerson who resigned her Position 7 seat when she was elected mayor in November.
Among those submitting applications by Friday’s deadline was Terry Preshaw, who was a candidate for the Position 1 seat and lost by 24 votes to Ted Wheeler.
The other applicants are Scott Casselman, Michele Meaker Pin, Mohammed Riaz Khan, Nicole Thomsen, Kevin Laverty, Ron Johnson, Janet Hammerman, Carolyn “Dode” Carlson, Brendon Jon Boyce and Christine D. Cook.
City Council members will interview the candidates and make a decision in a special meeting Jan. 13. The person they appoint will serve until Dec. 31, 2015, which is the remainder of Gregerson’s term.
