"We really came out slow and sluggish," said Turks head coach Nate Trichler on his team's start. "We didn't practice yesterday because of the snow, so at halftime we just kind of sat and talked about what we weren't doing right. We got back to just playing basketball (in the second half) and stopped worrying about making mistakes."
Sultan continued the rally into overtime. After MP scored the opening bucket, the Turks went on a 12-0 run to put Sultan up by 10 with two minutes remaining. Missed free throws with 17 seconds remaining by the Turks left the Tomahawks with a chance to tie after a 10-3 run of their own. Pilchuck missed two 3s in the final seconds to give Sultan the narrow victory.
"Last week we beat Everett," Trichler said of his squad's road win against a Wesco team. "So our kids weren't too intimidated tonight. We are so used to playing teams like Anacortes and Lynden that are perennial powers. We basically battle teams like that every night."
Antonio Rivas led the Turks with 22 points to go along with three 3-pointers and Giovanni Williams added 19 points.
Bryce Juneau paced the Tomahawks with 25 points and 10 assists in the loss.
