Man charged with indecent exposure in girls' locker room

EVERETT -- A Mount Vernon man who was arrested after allegedly being found naked in a high school girls locker room may also be the same nude man two middle-schoolers reported seeing months earlier in a different girls locker room.
Marysville police detective John Elton began investigating Brett Linert after a janitor at Getchell High School identified him as the person who was sitting nude in the shower area Oct. 28.
The girls soccer team was about to enter the locker room a few minutes prior to the janitor's discovery, according to court records. Linert reportedly apologized to the janitor, pulled on his clothes and walked off.
The janitor followed him outside and took down the man's license plate number. That led police to Linert, 50.
He allegedly told officers that he didn't realize he was in the girls locker room, despite the large sign outside the door. He said he was nude because he had messed his pants, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Lisa Paul wrote in court papers. Linert said he has intestinal problems that sometimes result in accidents.
The janitor told police Linert was seated with his clothes in his lap when he first encountered him. It didn't appear that he had taken a shower.
Linert reportedly told police that he was at the school to watch a soccer game with a friend. He couldn't provide police with his friend's phone number.
Video footage shows Linert arriving in his pickup truck and entering the building. He is seen later being followed out of the building by school security, Paul wrote. The video does not show him going to the soccer field.
Elton learned of a similar incident at Cedar Crest Middle School in Marysville, Paul wrote. Two girls in February reported seeing a naked man in the girls locker room after a basketball game. One of the girls identified Linert as the man she saw.
Prosecutors last week charged Linert with indecent exposure and second-degree burglary. He doesn't have any prior criminal history.
