I have lived in several different places and I have always used benches to sit on, to talk to people and look at things going on around town. The older I get, the more important it is to get to a bench to sit down and relax, to get out in the nice weather, to talk to people and see what’s going on.
I’m not a senior citizen, but I believe it is good for seniors to get out in the community and be involved with people, and they definitely need a place where they can take a load off their feet. I have seen in some places where people or businesses have donated a bench to a certain area by the marker on the bench acknowledging their thoughtfulness.
The older generations have a lot to offer society and should have places to go, to be part of the everyday activities of their communities.
I also believe that towns and cities have in the past always had a clock for the main core of the town; almost every town has a big clock that doesn’t work anymore. We need one of those, too. People work for the city and pick up the garbage and water the flowers downtown. They could clean up around the benches and the police could enforce the laws around the benches more often. Everybody needs to be involved in their community.
