Prep girls basketball: Tulalip Heritage 46, Darrington 40

DARRINGTON -- A defensive switch at halftime turned things around for the Tulalip Heritage girls basketball team on Saturday.
The Hawks trailed Darrington 24-15 at the half before a change from a zone defense to man-to-man ignited a 12-2 third-quarter run and Tulalip Heritage went on to beat the hosts 46-40 in the final of the Darrington Holiday Tournament.
"In the third, they switched to man-to-man and we didn't adjust well," Loggers head coach Jeff Anderson admitted. "We had a tough time running our offense and we couldn't keep up. We committed too many turnovers and a lot of those turnovers turned into transition baskets or fouls."
Tulalip Heritage's Katia Brown took advantage of those transition opportunities on her way to 14 points. The Loggers had difficulty guarding the senior guard, who shot 12-for-14 from the free throw line.
"She's a quick little guard who stood out," Anderson said. "She was putting pressure on our defense."
Kaela Tyler also scored 14 points for the Hawks, with Adiya Jones adding 12 points.
Baleigh Rumsey made three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for the Loggers.
