The Tips are ringing in the new year with a home-and-home set against the Victoria Royals, and it looks like Everett will be facing one of the league’s stingiest teams minus its top two offensive options.
Overage forwards Joshua Winquist and Manraj Hayer did not practice Monday, and neither will play in Tuesday night’s game at Comcast Arena.
It was confirmed that Winquist, Everett’s leading scorer, is suffering from concussion symptoms. The symptoms date back to a high hit he took from Portland defenseman Andon Cederholm in the final game of the first half. Winquist finished the game, but began feeling the effects afterward, and he hasn’t played since.
Meanwhile, Hayer remains out with his own concussion, which he suffered Dec. 11 in Spokane when he slid hard into the boards. He’s missed six games so far.
There is no timetable for the return of either Winquist or Hayer.
On the international front, Everett defenseman Mirco Mueller scored a goal in Switzerland’s 3-2 victory over Norway today at the World Junior Hockey Championships. Defensmen Kevin Davis and Noah Juulsen continue to play for Team Pacific at the U-17 World Hockey Challenge. Also worth noting is that Tips prospect forward Auston Matthews is playing for the U.S. at the U-17s.
