MONROE — That’s one way to beat high gas prices.
A Monroe man and Stanwood woman were arrested by Monroe police over the weekend after a siphon and several five-gallon gas cans were discovered in the back of their car.
Police tracked down the couple in the 15600 block of 177th Drive SE after a 911 caller reported seeing someone taking fuel from a neighbor’s truck. The caller pointed police to the truck and to a car nearby.
When police approached the car, they found the man in the back seat and the woman in the front passenger seat. Both had their eyes closed and said they had been resting.
Police noticed a strong odor of gas.
The man, 34, allegedly admitted stealing gasoline.
Police discovered more than pilfered petrol inside the car.
The woman, 39, was found in possession of a meth pipe and the man said there were drugs in the car.
The pair were arrested for fuel theft and drug possession.
