LINCOLN CITY, Ore. — Police in Lincoln City, Ore., say their search has been called off for a shrimp fisherman missing on Siletz Bay on the Oregon coast.
Sgt. Brian Eskridge says a jacket believed to belong to Brian Andrew Martin, 56, of Salem, was recovered from the water. The officer says Martin may have drowned in the incoming tide.
Martin and a Salem-area friend set out about 3 a.m. Monday to collect sand shrimp during the low tide. The friends got separated and the second man searched and then contacted police when Martin did not return to their vehicle.
Eskridge says a daylong search combed all the surrounding beach areas, a water rescue team searched the water and the Coast Guard sent a helicopter to assist.
