ROSEBURG, Ore. — Myrtle Creek police say a 21-year-old woman was arrested this week after she tried to swim away from officers during a traffic stop.
Chief Don Brown says Kathryn Ann Goodyear took off as officers discovered her passenger had marijuana. She went to the South Umpqua River near Interstate 5 and jumped in.
The chief says Goodyear tried to swim across, but couldn’t make and returned to the riverbank.
The Roseburg News-Review reported that she was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of third-degree escape and attempting to elude an officer on foot.
Her passenger, Aaron Canterbury, 32, of York, Pa., was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession or concealment of a firearm.
Brown says police found 95.3 grams of marijuana in a jar.
