Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1964)

It was official: Payson would run again. Payson Peterson, of Snohomish, said today he would be running for Congress again this year. Having been at it ever since 1930, Peterson said he thought his 18th try was a national record and added that he hoped he won this time.

Karen Frederick, Snohomish business administration junior, was one of 10 Central Washington State College coeds selected to membership in Kelly's Angels, honorary ROTC service group that supported the Air Force ROTC program there. Also among the 10 was Donna Johnstone, an Edmonds sophomore majoring in journalism.

At Everett Shawna Fortney scored 28 points and Erica Brockway 22 to lead Mariner in a nonconference girls basketball game against Burlington. Jenny Jones added 13 points and Angie Snoey 10. The Marauders, 9-0, jumped to a 21-4 first quarter lead and were ahead 45-14 at halftime.

Goebel Realty Inc. had recently been purchased by Mary Mayberry, Pat Campbell and Mike Krefting. The full-service real estate firm was located in Snohomish. Their staff had also been expanded since the purchase.
