SEATTLE — A bipartisan group of lawmakers still hasn’t agreed on the best strategies to reduce the state’s greenhouse gas emissions.
The state climate panel created by the Legislature has already missed a Dec. 31 deadline to deliver its recommendations.
On Wednesday, two Republicans called for more time to understand the economic costs of carbon-reducing proposals. Sen. Doug Ericksen of Ferndale and Rep. Shelly Short of Addy say the group should meet for another year.
But Democrat Sen. Kevin Ranker of Orcas Island says the panel has enough information and needs to move ahead.
The Legislature created the panel last year. The group includes two Democrats, two Republicans and Gov. Jay Inslee as a non-voting member.
