SULTAN — No one was hurt Friday when a fire broke out at Sultan High School.
The fire was reported at 12:50 p.m., and the buildings were evacuated, Sultan Fire Chief Merlin Halverson said.
The fire apparently started in the system used to collect sawdust in the high school’s shop room, Halverson said. The cause of the fire was unknown.
Firefighters stopped the flames before they could spread into the ventilation system. The buildings were filled with smoke, though, the chief said.
The main buildings were re-opened about 1:45 p.m. The shop was expected to remain closed overnight.
