Le scandal

Can Ken Starr speak French? French President Francois Hollande says he may sue a magazine over a report that he’s carrying on affair with an actress.

With this continues the inexorable spread of American culture and values across the European continent. First it was fast food. Now it’s a preoccupation with the sex lives of politicians. What’s next? Mocking politicians who use knives and forks to eat pizza?

BYOB: The mini-bar, a hotel room mainstay since the 1970s, may soon disappear, as today’s travelers prefer cocktails in the bar off the lobby and amenities such as wi-fi and laundry service.

The lack of mini-bars could be inconvenient for folks who, after a night of intemperate drinking, find that they can’t blame the bar tab on larcenous hotel maids.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1964, Surgeon General Luther Terry issued a report stating that cigarette smoking kills people.

Told of the report, the normally taciturn Marlboro Man launched into an angry tirade that soon turned into a phlegmy coughing fit.
