SEATTLE — Heavy weekend rains sent mudslides onto Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks south of Everett, affecting passenger train traffic.
Spokesman Gus Melonas says one slide hit tracks south of Everett at 5:15 p.m. Sunday and another at 11 p.m. Sunday at Mukilteo.
Crews were able to clear the tracks for freight trains but Amtrak and Sounder commuter trains are on hold until 11 p.m. Tuesday for a 48-year-old safety moratorium. Rail passengers will be bused.
Melonas says this is the first such moratorium this winter. There were dozens on the track last winter in Western Washington.
