Dam proposal

We must protect scenic Sky River

Thank you for the Sunday commentary on PUD dam proposal. (“PUD’s dam proposal would do more harm than good.”)
I oppose the proposed dam on the Skykomish — Sunset Falls. There are much better uses of funds for power.
Negative impacts and high costs outweigh any benefits — there is a limited time dam would be operational; any excess power wouldn’t stay in Washington.
Release of native metals could degrade water quality and contribute to acidification of river water. The Sky is one of only four State Scenic Waterways in Washington. Please continue to protect it from hydro power projects.
The proposed dam and intake are critical habitat for ESA threatened steelhead, six species of salmon and many other fish.
SnoPud is spending ratepayer funds to lobby Congress EET Committee, Tulalip Tribes and Northwest Power & Conservation Council to push this project through.
Please save the Sky.
