Front Porch: Stanwood hotel’s historic saloon reopens

Stanwood bar open
The bar in the historic Stanwood Hotel & Saloon has reopened after eight weeks of renovations.
Owner and general manager Marilyn Guthrie said that work on the building’s foundation required that the old bar be removed and replaced.
Guthrie said that work will continue on other parts of the building, starting with the exterior south wall, whose siding is exposed to the elements. So far there haven’t been any leaking problems inside.

Poplar Way bridge meeting: The city of Lynnwood plans an open house Jan. 30 regarding the Poplar Way Extension Bridge project. The public will be allowed to comment at the meeting, set for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.
For more information, call 425-670-5216.

Sidewalk work: The city of Mountlake Terrace and the Cedarwood Condominium Homeowners Association are working together to replace 350 feet of sidewalk on the north side of 216th Street, west of 44th Avenue W. The sidewalk was damaged by tree roots.
The homeowners are paying to remove the trees, and the city is replacing the sidewalk. Demolition has been completed, and work is expected to wrap up in March. For more information, call 425-670-8264.
