Body of Marysville man found in Stillaguamish River

ARLINGTON — A missing person case in Marysville ended Tuesday with the discovery of a man’s body in the North Fork Stillaguamish River.

The family of a Marysville man, 71, became concerned when he failed to show up for dinner Sunday as planned, Marysville police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said. Earlier in the day, the man had told them he was heading toward Oso, to check on fishing conditions in the river.

After family members confirmed the man was not at his home, Marysville police entered details about him and his vehicle into a database of missing persons.

Late Monday, a Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputy located the man’s vehicle near the river.

“Search efforts were hindered due to the terrain in the area and the time of day, and the decision was made to return Tuesday morning to conduct a search,” Lamoureux said.

The search began Tuesday morning, sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

The sheriff’s office sent a water rescue team to a stretch of river in the 26200 block of Highway 530 between Oso Loop Road and Boulder Creek. A sheriff’s office helicopter crew spotted the man around 11 p.m.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner was notified.

No other details were immediately available.
