EVERETT — A woman was dead and a man being treated for stab wounds after an outburst of violence Thursday evening at a south Everett apartment.
Police were summoned to Walden Pond Apartments along 12th Avenue W., by a 5 p.m. report of gunfire, Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell said.
Officers arrived at the H building to find a man with stab wounds and a woman dead from apparent gunshot wounds, Snell said.
The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
Two minor children were in the apartment. They were unhurt and were placed in temporary protective custody, Snell said.
Everett police on Thursday night were planning to work with Child Protective Services to coordinate the children's care, Snell said.
Major crimes detectives from the Everett Police Department were at the scene Thursday evening as their investigation got under way.
Neighbors said they had been told little by police, aside from assurances that they were not in any danger.
"I showed up and there were cops all over the place," said Jeff Scotty, 30, of Everett as he and some other men smoked cigarettes on a second-floor balcony.
Few people were around outside on the cold night. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office was expected to take custody of the woman's body and begin a death investigation.
The ages of those involved weren't released Thursday night.
