The Sultan City Council has selected Galaxy Chocolates as the city’s business of the month for January.
Owner Kathryne Paz taught herself to make candy. Almost 30 years ago, a friend stopped by Paz’s house when she was making candy. She sold $500 worth of chocolate to co-workers that day.
In 2004, Paz began selling her products at Celestial Coffee in Startup before moving into her current location at 501 Main St. in 2012.
Paz is planning to bring live music and party planning services to her store in the future. She is working on a website and expects to begin shipping Sultan chocolate all over the world upon finishing it.
Paz also volunteers in the community. She donates about $500 worth of baked goods a month to organizations such as Sultan Harvest, the senior center and the food bank.
