Q: The woman who plays Heath Ledger’s 19-year-old-daughter in “Brokeback Mountain” looks familiar to me. Who is she? What recent shows has she been in?
A: That’s Kate Mara. Most recently she has been seen as Zoe Barnes, the ambitious reporter on Netflix’s “House of Cards.”
She has also been on “American Horror Story,” “24” and other series and movies.
And she is the sister of Rooney Mara, the star of the Americanized version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and other films.
“Dragon Tattoo,” by the way, was directed by David Fincher, executive producer and occasional director of “House of Cards.”
And that series begins its second season on Feb. 14.
Q: On “The Millers,” the actress playing the daughter was on “Glee.” She was engaged to the glee club director. Was she written out? How did that engagement end?
A: Emma Pillsbury, played by Jayma Mays, ended up marrying Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) on Fox’s “Glee.”
As far as I can tell, they are still married, but we have seen Emma rarely since the show did some cast overhauling before the current season.
“It wasn’t my choice,” Mays told Britain’s Metro. “The creators decided to do it. It’s about getting new blood into the show.”
But she had no trouble landing a regular series job on CBS’s “The Millers”; she plays Debbie, the sister of Nathan Miller (Will Arnett) and daughter of Tom (Beau Bridges) and Carol (Margo Martindale).
Q: Why is SOAPNet off my cable system? I so enjoyed it at night to catch up on “General Hospital” since I’m working during the day. Now they have some other programming on the channel where SOAPNet was. Please have them try and bring it back!
A: The trouble is not in your cable. SOAPNet is finally washed up, with owner Disney/ABC ending it on Dec. 31.
There were fewer daytime dramas to provide programming, and one of the biggest, “The Young &the Restless,” left SOAPNet for TVGN.
At the same time, the rise of DVRs meant more people were recording soaps instead of watching the replays on the cable channel.
Although some viewers remained loyal to SOAPNet, there were not enough for Disney/ABC to keep it going.
You can find recent episodes online at ABC.go.com if your cable allows access, and Hulu Plus, which has a fee for viewing.
Q: Can you tell me if the program “Gigolos” is going to return? It was on Showtime on Thursday nights.
A: New episodes begin on Jan. 23.
