The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has issued a low-level burn ban for Snohomish and Pierce counties, effective until further notice.
Stagnant air conditions in the region prompted the agency to issue the ban to reduce the amount of wood-smoke pollution.
The “Stage 1” ban, the least restrictive, prohibits burning in fireplaces or uncertified wood stoves, along with any outdoor burning. Violations are enforced by complaint and subject to a $1,000 penalty.
Natural gas, propane, pellet and environmentally certified wood stoves or inserts can be used during a Stage 1 burn ban.
