007: The Early Years

Fleming, Ian Fleming: BBC America premieres a four-part miniseries Wednesday that chronicles the early life of Ian Fleming, including his spy craft for British naval intelligence during World War II up to his James Bond novels.

Among the miniseries’ revelations: The young Fleming liked his chocolate milk shaken, not stirred. He played Baccarat with Old Maid cards. He rigged an ejection seat in his pedal car. His cat’s name was Pussy Galore. And he called his childhood nemesis Boogerfinger.

Got your back, Biebs: Heartthrob turned bad boy Justin Bieber skipped the Grammy Awards and retreated to a Panamanian beach following his arrest in Florida for drunken driving.

Even though Bieber wasn’t nominated this year, fellow Canadian and Toronto Mayor Rob Ford stood by, ready to accept an award in Bieber’s absence.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1880, Thomas Edison received a patent for his incandescent lamp.

Those who opposed the electric light as a liberal plot flocked to hardware stores to stock up on candles and kerosene.
