Richard Sherman avoids controversy, even when asked about strippers (yes, strippers)
And while some reporters who came to media day looking for the sensational story probably went away disappointed, this is what everyone should have been expecting. For the most part Sherman's occasional outbursts have come during emotional times, like the moments right after a game, or while having to talk to ESPN's Skip Bayless, but Sherman knew this day was coming for a while now, and he is way to smart and prepares too well to have let this day get out of his control.
Sherman was again contrite about the way things played out last week, both because he took attention away from his teammates, and also because he realized he should have attacked an individual in his postgame quotes.
"Last week I felt like I regretted just attacking a man – attacking it and taking away from my teammates," he said. "You never want to talk down on a man to build yourself up and things like that. So I regretted that, and I regretted taking that attention away from my teammates. That's the one thing that I wish I could do again."
"I really think these cameras should go to my teammates, especially after Bobby Wagner's 15-tackle game in the NFC Championship, Kam Chancellor's interception and multiple pass deflections and his 11 tackles, or Earl's 11 tackles. I think these cameras can be around anyone. I think that what happened after the game, the situation that occurred, forced them to be around me and forced everybody's attention, but I think I have the best teammates in the world. Doug Baldwin had a heck of a game, and he's a heck of a receiver, and has the stats to prove it. I think that these cameras could be anywhere. They could be on all my teammates, and they deserve it."
And on it went, with Sherman avoiding trouble throughout, even maintaining his poise when a woman asked him about strippers. There's no way Sherman could have expected such an odd question—even at the circus that is media day—but watch how well he handled it:
