CLE ELUM — The Washington State Patrol says a commercial truck that crashed and caught fire closed eastbound lanes of I-90 in the central Cascades foothills for more than four hours. A detour was provided.
Troopers say the driver, Jose Macias, 35, of Moses Lake, was injured and taken to a nearby hospital Tuesday afternoon.
The patrol says the tractor-trailer rig veered to the right, hitting a guardrail and bridge abutment, then traveled across an overpass and wound up blocking both eastbound lanes. Then it caught fire.
Troopers blamed an equipment malfunction.
The eastbound closure lasted from 2 p.m. until nearly 6:30 p.m. Westbound lanes were not affected.
The crash happened just east of Cle Elum.
