EVERETT — Rescue crews Thursday pulled a partially submerged vehicle from the Snohomish River near Rotary Park in east Everett.
It doesn’t appear that anyone was inside the sedan, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said.
Firefighters were called around 9:45 a.m. to the area in the 3500 block of Lowell-Snohomish River Road. The top of the vehicle was visible.
An Everett firefighter wearing a wet suit went into the river to make sure no one was inside the Honda. Some of the car’s side windows were partially down.
A passerby called 911 to report the car in the river, Everett assistant fire marshal Eric Hicks said.
It appeared the car rolled down the park’s boat launch into the river.
Just how the car ended up in the water was under investigation Thursday.
“Right now, we are not assuming anything, but the probability is likely that it was stolen,” Snell said.
In recent years, police and sheriff’s office dive teams have pulled several stolen vehicles out of lakes and rivers in Snohomish County. The vehicles included a box truck in Monroe.
In 2012, a sheriff’s office dive team discovered two vehicles in Lost Lake near Maltby. At the time, a witness reported seeing a vehicle go into Lost Lake and two people running from the scene.
Divers quickly found the first vehicle, which had been reported stolen.
During the investigation, the dive unit discovered a second vehicle in the lake. It had been stripped, but had not been reported stolen.
