Seattle 2, Everett 1

I'm going to make it quick tonight because I need to be added to the injury report. But this was a tough one for the Tips. Everett, having lost five straight, desperately needs points from this weekend to remain relevant in the U.S. Division race. The Tips had scoring chances tonight, but they weren't able to bury them. Now Everett finds itself 11 points behind Seattle, which sits in fourth place in the Western Conference and thus would be the last team to earn home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Tips also fell two points behind Vancouver for sixth place in the conference, and finishing seventh or eighth would prove costly to the Tips in more ways than one.

The score was tied 1-1 with two seconds remaining in the first period when Seattle goaltender Taran Kozun rimmed the puck from behind his own net. The puck took a funny bounce off a stanchion and landed right in front of Everett's Brayden Low in the slot. But somehow Kozun recovered to snag Low's shot and keep the score tied. The Tips had the better scoring chances in the first period and probably deserved a lead. But though the play was fairly even in the first, a tie score was probably a victory for the T-birds.

First star: Kozun. 24 saves, the save on Low and another on Joshua Winquist in free on goal saved this game for Seattle.

Second star: Mathew Barzal, Seattle. One goal and one assist, very fluid with his skating.

Third star: Winquist. One goal, and nearly had three highlight-reel stick handling sequences.

The Herald's honorable mention: Evan Wardley, Seattle. No points, but was a physical presence on defense.
