Everett’s 12th man came out for a Super Bowl rally at Snohomish County Plaza on Friday afternoon.
About 75 people briefly gathered at the same location on the Friday before the NFC Championship. This time, several hundred people danced and chanted to get fired up for Sunday.
The event was organized by Experience Everett in collaboration with Cindy Petosa Brengman, the owner and director of Sunnyside Preschool in Lake Stevens.
Kelly Charlton, a SeaGal, teaches dance classes at Sunnyside. Charlton choreographed a flash mob dance to Macklemore’s “Can’t Hold Us,” which was debuted by Brengman and other members of the crowd around the time the clock hit 12:12.
Brengman enlisted her neighbor, musician Diana Ruiz, to emcee the event. Ruiz sang “Don’t Stop Believin’” to the crowd as Brengman prepared a free raffle, the winner of which got an official Super Bowl flip coin.
“There’s only ten thousand made,” Brengman said. “After that, they destroy the molds.”
Snohomish County Ombudsman John Koster drew the winning number. Snohomish County Executive John Lovick also said a few words to the crowd.
Not everyone was in Seahawks gear. A man in a Broncos jersey walked into the middle of the crowd to “remind everyone about Peyton Manning.”
Billy Gonzales was more low-key. He wore a black-and-orange leather jacket with a subtle Broncos logo. His mother, Bea Rasmussen, was decked out in Seahawks gear.
“I was born in Denver, that’s my home team,” Gonzales said.
His mother used to root for the Broncos before moving to the Northwest.
“She sadly converted,” her son said.
