The Adopt A Stream Foundation will present a free showing of “Hoot” at 7 p.m. Friday at the Northwest Stream Center.
The 2006 feature film, based on a young adult novel by Carl Hiassen, is the story of a group of 12-year-olds who try to protect endangered owls that are being forced out of their habitat by encroaching development.
“Hoot” stars Logan Lerman, an award-winning young actor, Luke Wilson and a population of cute burrowing owls.
Jimmy Buffett pops up as a middle-school science teacher. Buffett also produced the movie’s music.
After the film, Adopt A Stream director Tom Murdoch will tell a story about local sixth-graders who protected a salmon stream.
The movie is free but reservations are required because of limited seating. Call 425-316-8592.
The NW Stream Center is in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.
