The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office told media outlets that Carol Boeck, of Red Hook, has been charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular manslaughter in connection with the accident shortly before midnight Friday night.
Deputies say three students were walking on Route 9G in the village of Tivoli when they were struck by a Jeep Wrangler. The accident killed Evelina Martin Brown, of Seattle, and Sarah McCausland, 19, of Winnetka, Ill. The third student survived.
Boeck was arraigned in Tivoli Village Court. She’s due back in court Monday. It could not be determined if she has a lawyer.
Bard President Leon Botstein said multiple services are being offered to help students cope.
