Woodway now gets fire service from Shoreline

The town of Woodway ended its contract for service from Snohomish County Fire District 1 at the beginning of January and now gets its fire service from the Shoreline Fire District.

For most of its history, Woodway contracted with the City of Edmonds for fire service, but when Edmonds sold its fire facilities and equipment to Fire District 1 a few years ago, Woodway joined Edmonds in contracting for service with District 1.

Woodway Town Administrator Eric Faison said in January that Woodway made the change because the Shoreline District offered a lower cost than District 1 did and that response time to most Woodway residents would be faster from Shoreline.

Faison said that residents in south Woodway would get faster response from Shoreline than from the District 1 station in Edmonds, while a small number of residents in the north part of town would get slower response.

A spokeswoman for the Shoreline Department said Friday that Shoreline could respond to any call in Woodway within five minutes.
