SHORELINE — Samantha Powell led the way with a game-high 22 points as the Stanwood girls basketball team defeated Shorewood 54-52 in a Wesco 3A game played on Thursday night. The loss knocked the Thunderbirds out of the playoffs.
Meadowdale also lost to Shorecrest 51-45 Thursday night to tie Shorewood for the fourth district playoff spot. But the Mavericks own the head-to-head tiebreaker over Shorewood and will face 4A North No. 1 seed Everett in the first round of next week’s district tournament.
Hailey Costello paced the Mavericks with 15 points in the loss.
Lily Gustafson led the Thunderbirds with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Shorewood finishes the season in a tie for fourth place in the Wesco 3A South with Meadowdale, However, due to the head-to-head tie-breaker with the Mavericks winning both regular season matchups, the Thunderbirds are eliminated for post-season play.
