Associated Press
TROUTDALE, Ore. — Officials say two children playing on what they thought was a frozen pond in an east Portland suburb fell through the ice and were rescued by their mother, who went in after them and also fell through the ice.
It happened Friday morning at Sunrise Park in Troutdale.
City of Gresham spokesperson Robin Franzen Parker said the two boys were submerged up to their necks in the pond.
Fire spokesman Jason McGowan in nearby Gresham says the children were about 8 and 10. McGowan says the trio walked back to their apartment to call 911. They were taken to a hospital to be evaluated.
