Glacier Peak wins 3A South Sub-Regional

MARYSVILLE — Glacier Peak had nine wrestlers qualify for regionals as the Grizzlies ran away with the team title at the 3A Sub-Regional South Tournament.

Five Grizzlies emerged as champions, including Samir Mahmoud (106 pounds), Ethan Barr (138), Logan Coleman (160), Griffin Thomas (170) and Mosese Fifita (285). Glacier Peak finished with 342 points, easily outpacing Mountlake Terrace’s 217.5 points.

The Hawks are sending seven wrestlers on to next Saturday’s regional tournament and had both finalists in two different weight classes. At 120 pounds, Taylor Hetherington beat teammate Gene Ahn 8-3 and Daniil Oliferovskiiy also had a 4-1 decision win over fellow Hawk Sean Poole at 152 pounds.

Third-place Shorewood had six wrestlers move on, including Matthew Floresca. Floresca, who finished second at 126 pounds in last year’s 3A state tournament, beat Glacier Peak’s John Kim 8-1.
