Seattle area residents woke up to about a few inches of rare lowland snow.
The National Weather Service says nearly 3 inches fell at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the heaviest snowfall in a single day there in roughly two years.
Meteorologist Josh Smith said Southwest Washington got hammered with more than five inches in south Thurston County and some parts of Lewis County.
Smith said temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by late Sunday, and rain is in the forecast for the rest of this week.
