Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1964)

Ron Larson, former Everett High School star and now a guard for Everett Junior College, drove past an Olympic Ranger and scored two points that were part of a victory over the Bremerton team.

The Monroe Bearcats took a breather in their chase for the Cascade A League basketball title by winning a practice game at Tahoma High School, 55-47, Saturday night. Paced by Jim Scharf with 16 points, Mike Carlson with 13 and Dan Weaver with 12, the Bearcats pulled away from Tahoma in the fourth quarter.



25 years ago (1989)

Peeling bananas wasn’t part of the job description when Judith Billings took over as state superintendent of public instruction in January, but when 4-year-old Michael Rosenquist, asked her to peel it for him, she was more than happy. On her visit to Everett’s Hawthorne School she also saw fourth-grader Somchith Phangnxang elected class vice president.

Ferry plans might affect two cities in the county. In Mukilteo there was talk about moving the ferry terminal when the tank farm closed down. In Edmonds talk of moving the ferry dock was being challenged by downtown merchants.
