Man enters plea in fatal Seattle-area shooting

KENT ó A 22-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a 96-year-old Seattle-area man with the manís own gun and bashing the manís granddaughter a dozen times with a crowbar has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and assault charges.
KOMO-TV reported that Shane Chamberlain entered his pleas Monday. Heís held on $2 million bail in the Jan. 25 attack that killed Philip Hamlin, who was shot as he rested at his home in the south Seattle suburb of Normandy Park. According to court documents, the elderly manís granddaughter, Bethany Hamlin, was attacked with a crowbar as she vacuumed in her grandfatherís house. She was able to defend herself with a chair and escape to a neighborís house.
Police say Chamberlainís wife worked as Philip Hamlinís caregiver.
Prosecutors say Chamberlain reported having marital problems and told a 911 dispatcher thatís why he ďbroke.Ē Heís due back in court Feb. 24.
