Late car tabs unfair situation

On Jan. 7, I sent in my payment to the Snohomish County Auditor for my car tabs, which had to be on the car by Feb. 1. On Jan. 30, I called them to say I hadn’t received my tabs yet. The voicemail said they were two weeks behind in processing. When I talked to a clerk, she said they were two weeks behind in processing, but I reminded her that it had been 23 days, which is over three weeks. She said she would send me an extension that would go out Friday and I should receive it Saturday. It wasn’t in the mail. On Monday I called again because it still wasn’t in the mail. It had been processed on Monday and the mail would go out Tuesday so they didn’t send the extension. Why didn’t they send it Friday if it didn’t get processed until Monday?
So now it will be Tuesday before I get my tabs if they come. Oh, by the way, the clerk also informed me that I could still get a ticket if I drive! Are you kidding me? I cancelled a class Monday night because I didn’t want to take a chance on getting a ticket.
So, what about all the other people out there in the same predicament? How is it fair that we have to suffer the consequence? I will certainly not send in for tabs next year hoping to save a few dollars on a service charge. Bottom line, it has now been 28 days and counting.
