Wide support for Edmonds School District measures

Voters in the Edmonds School District continued to support the propositions on the Tuesday, Feb. 11 ballot in returns posted Wednesday and Thursday, with the percentage of "yes" votes gaining on both proposals.

Support for the School District's renewal of a maintenance-and-operations levy, which needs a simple majority to pass, grew from 62.88 percent Tuesday to 64.36 percent in returns posted Wednesday and to 65.09 percent Thursday with 98 percent of expected ballots counted.

The District's bond issue for school construction and renovation, which needs a 60 percent majority to pass, grew in support from 61.16 percent Tuesday to 62.52 percent Wednesday to 63.13 percent Thursday.

County elections manager Garth Fell said Wednesday that officials had counted 98 percent of the expected number of ballots. He added that elections officials have about 2,100 uncounted ballots countywide.

"We may get a few more ballots from military and overseas voters or may get people who cure their signature issues over the next week," he said. "But the vast majority of ballots will be counted by (Friday)."

County elections officials plan to post updated returns Friday afternoon and continue to count ballots through final certification of the results Feb. 25.

Through Thursday morning, officials had received ballots from 29.15 percent of registered Edmonds School District voters compared to the countywide average of 28.38 percent.

The Edmonds School District, including Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Woodway and nearby unincorporated areas, had the sixth best ballot-return rate of the 12 Snohomish County districts with propositions on the ballot.
