EVERETT — The postseason inexperience showed early for Archbishop Murphy, but the play of sophomore Megan Wall in the second half lifted the Wildcats to a 45-37 win over Anacortes in a 2A District 1/2 Tournament first-round game Friday night.
“We came out a bit flat,” said Archbishop Murphy head coach Cassie Snyder. “We started out not being ready to score. We don’t really have a lot of experience, so jitters definitely got to us early on.”
Trailing 25-20 at halftime, the Wildcats made a few defensive adjustments and Wall scored the majority of her game-high 25 points in the second half to lead Murphy to the come-from-behind win. The Wildcats held the Seahawks to 12 points in the final two quarters.
“(Megan) worked her tail off tonight,” Snyder said. “She did a great job at drawing attention away from her teammates and she did a nice job in the second half, she got some steals and made some easy buckets.”
Up next for Archbishop Murphy is Lynden, who beat Lakewood 63-29, in the semifinals on Monday at 7 p.m.
“Honestly I don’t know a lot about them,” Snyder said on her team’s next opponent. “All we know is that they’re a very talented team that has experience.”
