MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — From the opening tip it was all Jackson over Snohomish in the first game of a 4A district 1 semifinal doubleheader at Mountlake Terrace H.S. on Saturday. The Timberwolves remained unbeaten against Wesco opponents on the season in a 82-62 victory.
“We played really well in the first half,” said Jackson head coach Steven Johnson. “Defensively it was the things we like to do.”
Jackson jumped out to a 15-2 edge thanks to nine points by Jason Todd in just over four minutes of action. Dan Kingma took his first shot from the corner with three minutes left in the first and drained a 3 that made it 18-5.
Snohomish had no answer for Kingma, who poured in 26 points mixing drives and 3s to lead all scorers. The senior also added six assists before sitting down for good early in the fourth.
“Dan was obviously feeling it,” Johnson said.
Collin Kane was the bright spot with 12 points in the third quarter for Snohomish on the way to a team-high 21. Josh Baird added 20.
Jackson fans briefly had a scare when Todd went up in traffic for a rebound and came down on his tailbone in the first quarter. The University of Portland-recruit returned in the second quarter and finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
“He plays with abandon and energy … It’s not the first time I’ve seen that,” Johnson said. “I think he should be fine for next week,”
Next week Jackson, which advances to the state regional with the win, plays the winner of Arlington/Edmonds-Woodway at Glacier Peak H.S. in the District 1 championship game. Snohomish hosts a loser-out game Tuesday against the winner of tonight’s Mount Vernon/Kamiak game.
